Making a Connection with Christ
I grew up in a Christian home with religion being a big part in our lives. We went to church every Sunday, participated in events in our church, and learned about Christ in school, but I never really got to know Him. I didn’t feel a strong connection with Jesu, and it was sometimes hard to tell if He was there or not. I struggled to learn who He was and began to go simply through the motions; I went to church because I thought it was a part of life, but I didn’t attempt to search for Christ. I have always known that Christ is real and believed in Him, but I didn’t build my relationship with Him.
Early in high school, I began going on mission trips every summer to strengthen my connection with Christ by serving others. After my first time going, I already began to feel a stronger connection with Jesus, but I wasn’t completely committed early on. I would go back and forth between being driven to get to know Christ and just going through the motions of being a “good” person. Eventually, I finally accepted Christ into my life. I realized how important Christ is in our lives and how much we need Him. I began to seek Christ by praying every day, learning about my faith, helping others in need, and teaching them about my faith. He started to become the most important part of my life, and I was changing for the better.
The only thing I was missing coming into college was a community to grow in my faith with. My friend told me about Cru earlier this semester, and I decided to go. I have never felt a stronger connection with Christ, and Cru has become a big part of supporting me in that. I know my life is not perfect, but I am very blessed and very thankful for the life I live and the relationship I have with Christ.
One thing that I have learned from my experience is that we never know when Christ will come into our lives… it’s up to us to make the attempt to better ourselves and hear Christ calling out to us.
“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul” Deuteronomy 4:29.
What do you think?
If this story has encouraged you to place your faith in Jesus as your Savior and your Lord, you can do so right now, or anytime you are ready, by sincerely expressing a simple prayer to Him. Prayer is simply talking with God. The exact words are not as important as the attitude of your heart. Here is a suggested prayer:“Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Start making me the kind of person you want me to be.”
