Nothing Extraordinary
My story isn’t anything extraordinary; there’s no great loss, rebellious phase, or dramatic conversion moment, but sometimes God works in more subtle ways. It was through a lifetime of small moments and changes that I came to know and love the Lord. I grew up in a Christian home with parents who were both active in their faith. Going to church every week was such an inherent part of my life that it became something that I took for granted. It wasn’t until I got to high school that I really took the time to think about what I actually believed. Doing this proved to be a more daunting task than expected, and what I believed seemed to vary on a weekly basis. The entirety of my time in high school was plagued with oscillations of belief and doubt, moments of extreme dedication to my faith and moments of indifference. By the time I started college, I concluded that I believed in Jesus, but I didn’t really understand how to live that out in my everyday life. During my freshman year, I met a lot of people, through an on-campus Christian org, that modeled the love of Christ in a way I had never seen before. It was seeing their humility, selflessness, and sense of purpose that made me see the type of person I wanted to be and the role I wanted Christ to have in my life. That’s when it really clicked for me, and I switched from having a passive belief in God, to actively pursuing Him. Since that time, I’ve been trying, and failing, and trying again to make Christ the center of my life and to serve Him well. It may not be a dramatic or breathtaking story, but this story has come to define me and continues to change my life in the most extraordinary of ways.
What do you think?
If this story has encouraged you to place your faith in Jesus as your Savior and your Lord, you can do so right now, or anytime you are ready, by sincerely expressing a simple prayer to Him. Prayer is simply talking with God. The exact words are not as important as the attitude of your heart. Here is a suggested prayer:“Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Start making me the kind of person you want me to be.”
